However it turned out that even his heightened intelligence was caused by the dark spore (it is mentioned that all his grades got worse after episode 21 and that he was completely normal since then) so technically he was downgraded after being redeemed. Remember, while ken was the Digimon Kaiser he was supposed to be a child genious someone who would have skipped grades if the school system would have allowed it. The most meaningful message you can make with that is a pretty bog-standard "Yea, even this monster deserves compassion and forgiveness." Yes, it's a children's cartoon, so the villain will be by definition cartoonish, but does it have to be so extreme?Ĭlick to expand.Ironically it would be more logical the other way around.

Sure, it's something that happens in the real world and is therefore realistic, but setting the Digimon equivalent of a 4chan/reddit poster as your villain is just.boring it's like creating a villain whose entire life revolves around kicking puppies, and it invites no discussion or contemplation from the viewer. When people are pointlessly cruel and destructive on the internet or in games, we call them trolls and assholes, and it's a simple matter to demonstrate that they are uncontroversially, objectively a detriment to society. "Villains" like the Emperor and Yuu are uninteresting to me. It's up to you whether this makes the defeat of his plans happy or tragic.
